Move Better, Feel Better – Mat Pilates and Reformer – Morningside, Edinburgh

Here at Sano Studio, we’ve seen first-hand how transformative Mat Pilates and Reformer can be—for both body and mind. Whether you're returning to movement after an injury, seeking more balance in your training, or simply looking for a new way to connect with your body, Pilates is a powerful place to start.

Our Pilates classes in Morningside, Edinburgh are built on the belief that movement should feel good, functional, and sustainable. You don’t need to be flexible. You don’t need to be strong. You just need to show up.

What’s the Difference Between Mat Pilates and Reformer?

It’s a question we’re asked often, and the honest answer is: both are brilliant. They simply offer different ways to move and challenge the body.

Mat Pilates is performed on the floor, often using props like blocks, bands or small balls to support and challenge your movement. It builds a strong foundation—focusing on core strength, posture, alignment, and control. Classes are flowing, mindful, and deceptively powerful.

Reformer Pilates uses a specialised machine with springs, straps and a gliding carriage. It adds resistance, which means more variety and a deeper challenge to your strength, stability and mobility. Think length, tone, and precision.

At Sano Studio, we offer both—so you can discover what works best for your body.

What to Expect From Our Pilates Classes

We get it—walking into a studio can feel intimidating, especially if you’re new to Pilates. But don’t worry. Our teachers are warm, inclusive, and genuinely committed to helping you feel confident and safe in your movement practice.

Every class, whether Mat or Reformer, is kept intentionally small. That way, we can give you hands-on support, offer individual modifications, and celebrate your progress—without ever pushing beyond your limits.

You’ll learn to move with more awareness. You’ll feel stronger, more open, and more connected to your breath. And perhaps most importantly, you’ll begin to trust your body more.

Why Our Morningside Pilates Community Keeps Growing

We’re proud to be based in Morningside, Edinburgh—a community that values wellbeing, movement and meaningful connection. Many of our clients join us after feeling overlooked in larger gym classes or struggling with old injuries that never fully healed.

Here, you’ll be seen. We take time to get to know you—what brings you in, what your goals are, what makes you feel good in your body. Whether you're in your 20s or 60s, whether you're starting out or returning to movement after a break, we’ll meet you where you are.

The results? Improved posture, reduced pain, stronger muscles, better balance—and a sense of joy in movement that lasts far beyond the studio.

Mat Pilates and Reformer – Which One Should I Start With?

We’re always happy to chat and guide you toward the right class. And if you’re still unsure, why not book an intro session and try both? Your body will tell you what it needs.

FAQs – Let’s Cover the Essentials

I’ve never done Pilates before. Can I join?

Yes! Our classes are open to all levels, including complete beginners. We’ll offer plenty of guidance, modifications, and encouragement so you feel supported every step of the way.

Is Reformer Pilates harder than Mat?

Not necessarily—it’s just different. The Reformer adds resistance, but also support. Many people with joint pain or past injuries actually find the Reformer more accessible. We’ll help you find the right balance.

What should I wear?

Something you can move comfortably in—leggings, a vest or t-shirt, and socks (grip socks are great for Reformer). No shoes needed.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself. We provide all equipment, mats, and props. If you’d like to bring your own mat, you’re more than welcome to.

How many people are in a class?

We keep our classes small—usually no more than 6 for Reformer and 8 for Mat. This allows for a more personal and supportive experience.
