How Often Should You Do Reformer Pilates? A Simple Guide from Our Morningside Studio
It's one of the questions we hear most at the front desk in Morningside: "How often do I actually need to come?" The honest answer depends on what you want from reformer Pilates, how your week looks, and where you're starting from. Here's how we explain it to new clients.
The short answer
For most people, two reformer Pilates classes a week is the sweet spot. It's often enough to build strength and technique from one class to the next, with time to recover in between.
Once a week is a great place to start, and three or more works well if you're combining Pilates with other training. The best routine is the one you can keep up.

Once a week: building the habit
One class a week is ideal if you're new to reformer Pilates, coming back after a break, or fitting it around a busy life. You'll learn how the reformer works, get comfortable with the springs and straps, and start to notice better posture and body awareness.
Progress is steadier at this pace, but it is still progress. Many of our longest-standing clients started with one class a week.
Twice a week: where results build
Two classes a week is where most people start to feel a real difference in core strength, flexibility and how their body moves day to day. Your body remembers more from one session to the next, so each class builds on the last rather than starting from scratch.
If you want to feel stronger by the New Year, this is the rhythm we'd suggest.
Three or more times a week: training with purpose
Three or more sessions suit people training for an event, recovering strength under guidance, or using Pilates as their main form of exercise. At this level, mix things up: combine reformer with a mat Pilates, yoga or kettlebell class so you work in different ways and give your body variety.
Brand new? Start here
If you've never tried reformer Pilates, our Sano Start Reformer class (£15) is designed for complete beginners. From there, a Reformer Starter Pack gives you three in-person reformer classes to use within a month (£65), which is enough to find your favourite class times and instructors.
Our classes are small, with a maximum of six reformers, so your instructor can guide your form and adjust exercises for you.
Matching your rhythm to the right plan
How often you want to come | Plan | Price |
Trying it out | Reformer Starter Pack: 3 classes in one month | £65 |
Every now and then | Single reformer class | £28 |
Once a week | Sano Core IV: 4 classes a month | £80 a month |
Twice a week | Sano Core VIII: 8 classes a month, plus 1 guest pass | £145 a month |
Three or more times a week | Sano Core XV: 15 classes a month, plus 2 guest passes | £180 a month |
Sano Core memberships can be used for reformer, mat or yoga classes, and include our digital in-studio classes. Coming twice a week on Sano Core VIII works out at about £18 a class, compared with £28 for a single class.
Tips for keeping it up
Book the same slots each week. A fixed class time becomes part of your routine, like a standing coffee with a friend.
Book ahead. With six reformers per class, popular times fill up.
Bring a friend. If your membership includes a guest pass, use it; it's easier to stay consistent together.
Listen to your body. Feeling worked is normal; sharp pain isn't. If you have an injury or health condition, or you're pregnant, tell your instructor before class and check with your GP if you're unsure.
